How does a very small law firm prepare for a very large trial? Faced with reviewing nearly 80,000 documents — paper, emails and accounting data — the solicitors called on Epiq.

We loaded scanned versions of the paper documents and OCRed them, while our eDataMatrix™ software processed the email, extracting all field information and text. Using DocuMatrix™, we created a database of the entire collection. By perusing the metadata within DocuMatrix™, we showed that the other side had not disclosed some necessary material. Using arguments based on this data, the solicitors were able to obtain further disclosure and key evidence.

The secure, searchable review database, hosted on an Epiq server, allowed barristers and expert witnesses easy access to the documents, all within one repository. During trial, the barristers continued to have access to the repository and so were able to promptly find the precise documents needed to win their case.

the solution
